TAIPEI (Reuters) -Taiwan President Lai Ching-te thanked reminiscence chipmaker Micron (NASDAQ:)’s Chief Govt Sanjay Mehrotra on Friday for his belief and continued funding within the island, in a uncommon public assembly with a senior international tech govt.

It is rather uncommon for Taiwan’s president to have publicised conferences with senior international tech executives regardless of the island being residence to the world’s largest contract chipmaker TSMC, whose chips assist to energy the surge in synthetic intelligence (AI) purposes.

Lai thanked Mehrotra for “showing trust and support for Taiwan” in video launched by the president’s workplace.

“I want to thank Micron for its long-term investment in Taiwan and continuing to promote the upgrading of DRAM process technology in Taiwan,” he added, referring to dynamic random entry reminiscence (DRAM) chips.

Micron is likely one of the few suppliers of high-bandwidth reminiscence (HBM) chips utilized in superior AI programs.

Taiwan hopes Micron will proceed to broaden its research and improvement capabilities, and the federal government will create a “friendly living environment” for international abilities to fulfill the wants of corporations, Lai mentioned.

“It’s an honour to meet with you today,” Mehrotra informed Lai.

Micron didn’t instantly reply to a request for remark.

Lai’s assembly with Mehrotra was not beforehand introduced within the president’s official schedule which is distributed to reporters.
